Public consultation notice - Working Better Together:  Options to improve collaboration between fire and police services in North Yorkshire
Legislation recently passed by Parliament includes a new duty for emergency services to collaborate, and a specific opportunity for Police and Crime Commissioners to apply to the Secretary of State to allow them to take on responsibility for the governance of their local Fire and Rescue Service, if it appears that it is in the interests of effectiveness, efficiency, economy or public safety to do so.

Given this, the Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, Julia Mulligan, has taken the view that a review of the governance of the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and a benefits assessment of the options for change is necessary.

A local business case has been prepared and is now published for public consultation. The consultation is your chance to tell us what you think about the benefits of change in North Yorkshire. The consultation runs from 17 July - 22 September 2017.

You can view the local business case, all consultation materials, find further information and respond to the consultation survey at

You are invited to meet Julia at one of her public surgeries to discuss policing and crime issues.
The surgeries run on an appointment only basis, with each appointment lasting 15 minutes.
The next public surgery will take place at Acomb Parish Hall, Front Street, Acomb, York. YO24 3BX between 1pm and 3pm on Monday 24 July.

  • Julia said: "The surgeries are a good opportunity for local people to come along and tell me how the police are doing in their area and to bring up any issues they may have about safety in the community.
"If you have any concerns or problems regarding policing and crime matters that you would like to discuss with me, please contact my office to request an appointment."
Surgery dates are organised around the county on different days and at different times; you do not necessarily have to go to the surgery closest to your home, but can choose the most convenient to you.
To request an appointment,
